MBTA Blue Line from Downtown Crossing: $2.75, 22 minutes direct to Airport Station, runs every 5-7 minutes. This is the fastest and cheapest option — skip the Silver Line, it's slower. Uber/Lyft from downtown: $18–28 depending on surge pricing, 15–25 minutes. Avoid morning rush (7–9 AM) and evening (4–6 PM). Taxi from downtown: flat rate $17.50 plus tolls (~$3–5), roughly 20 minutes but unreliable wait times. The Blue Line is genuinely your move unless you have luggage that makes you uncomfortable in transit.
Getting from MYK into Mykonos
Mykonos Airport (MYK) is just 3km from Mykonos Town, making transfers quick. Taxi: the official taxi rank is outside arrivals — fixed rate to Chora is €12-15, takes about 8 minutes. Note that taxis are famously scarce in peak season; book through the myTaxi app or your hotel in advance or you'll wait 45+ minutes. KTEL Bus: the public bus line connecting the airport to Mykonos Town runs every 20-30 minutes in summer, costs €2, and takes about 10 minutes — the stop is a 2-minute walk from the terminal. This is the obvious move if you're not hauling huge bags. Hotel transfers: Most hotels above €200/night offer complimentary airport transfers — confirm this when booking as it's genuinely worth asking for.

Mykonos is the Aegean's party capital and one of the most expensive islands in Europe — think Ibiza meets a whitewashed Greek postcard. Mid-range hotels run €150-350/night in high season; look at Hotel Matina or Carbonaki Hotel for value. The alley system means zero cars, so it's quiet at night despite being the social hub.

luxuryThe most photogenic strip in Mykonos, where old sea captains' houses hang directly over the water. Sunset cocktails here (try Galleraki or Kastro Bar) are a Mykonos rite of passage, though €18-22 per drink is standard. Boutique hotels in this micro-neighborhood are among the island's most expensive — expect €400-800/night at peak season for anything decent.

Book the 7:30am SeaJets catamaran from Piraeus to Mykonos instead of flying from Athens — it's €60-85, takes 2.5 hours, and drops you at the Old Port in the heart of Chora. You save the €40-80 Aegean flight fare, skip the domestic terminal hassle at ATH, arrive refreshed with a sea view, and your first impression of the island is sailing into the iconic harbor rather than landing at a small airport. Book at seajets.gr at least 2 weeks ahead in summer as these fill up fast.
Visa and entry notes for US travelers
US passport holders enter Greece visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period under the Schengen Agreement. As of 2025-2026, the EU's ETIAS pre-travel authorization system is required for Americans — register at etias.eu.int before departure (expect €7 fee, valid 3 years). Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure date from the Schengen Area. No visa appointment needed, no forms to fill at the airport. Greece also accepts the EU Digital COVID Certificate rules are long retired — no health documentation required.
